Dreams
By Rueben Dass
Dreams,
All of us have had them, haven’t we?
At moments when the mind runs free,
Often beyond what the eyes can see.
Some dream of becoming rich,
Having power to spend without a twitch,
Some dream of becoming famous,
Swarmed constantly by the masses.
Some work tirelessly in that very quest,
Determined and disciplined with no rest,
Some have it handed on a platter,
Isn’t life unfair in the latter?
Those who succeed, glorify it,
By proclaiming never to stop,
Those who fail, despise it,
By proclaiming never to start.
Dreams,
Are but a few that come free of cost,
Beware, however, for if you get lost,
It’ll drown you and make your life its cost.
Dreams,
Are dependent on so many factors,
Status, geography, ability, luck,
And not forgetting possession of the buck,
Are they but a figment of our imagination?
Or a consequence of decisions abiding by the law of causation.
Sometimes I wander,
Do we really have a right to dream,
Or is it a right of a privileged few?
If life is nothing but fate,
Then why bother dream?
As some would say,
It’s already written on your forehead.
